Rob Montgomery, owner of Wendy’s of Santa Clarita, has always believed that good food goes hand in hand with a good lifestyle. Nowhere is that more evident than in Wendy’s support for local schools and local athletics. The local Wendy’s key-tag program, now in its sixth year, has raised over $25,000 for the 37 participating schools.
This month, Wendy’s of Santa Clarita recognized Valencia High School and Bowman High School for their big wins in the 2013-2014 contest. Each school received a $500 cash prize for winning in its category.
This year’s contest has now begun, and it is very easy for anyone to participate. For a $1 donation to the school of your choice, you can purchase a key-tag at any Santa Clarita Wendy’s, or you can simply obtain one directly from your school. Each key tag entitles the holder to one free Jr Frosty with every purchase at any local Wendy’s restaurant until August 31, 2015, and the school you designate receives a point toward the contest each time you visit. Points are totaled at the end of the year and each school receives a cash prize based on the number of points earned. In addition, the top schools by total points and by points as a percentage of enrollment each receive a $500 cash prize. To participate in this year’s program, schools must sign up no later than October 31.
But Wendy’s doesn’t stop at key tags. They are currently supporting five local high school football teams and rewarding their most valuable players. As a proud sponsor of both the SCVTV Athlete of the Week and The Signal Player of the Week, Wendy’s is giving Santa Clarita athletes the recognition they deserve for their achievements in both academics and sports.
Local student athletes can also participate in a national recognition program that could lead to an invitation to New York during Heisman week.
Since 1994, The Wendy’s High School Heisman program has recognized students whose academic, athletic, and community involvement is of exceptional caliber. The top students are invited to attend a special Heisman ceremony in New York where the male and female national winners are announced.
