The Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley is proud to present Staci Alziebler-Perkins, Human Rights and Grants expert and United Nations Representative, who will talk about “Women’s Issues & Advocacy about Gender Equality on the World Stage: United Nations Post 2015 Development Goals” on October 8, 6:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn located at 27710 The Old Road in Valencia.
Next year, 2015, will be a landmark year with the conclusion of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s) coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the Beijing World Conference on Women. Countries will gather in September 2015 to review progress of the MDGs and set new goals. Many say that if the Beijing Platform for Action was happening now, there would no longer be any agreement, and that women are actually losing rather than gaining ground. What will the future look like for our daughters and our daughter’s daughters?
Staci has spent more than 20 years in human rights focused nonprofit organizations in a variety of positions ranging from Grant Consultant, Program and Development Officer, Financial Officer to Executive Director. Staci currently works as Program Director at Virginia Gildersleeve International Fund, a small grant making organization that provides funds to women’s empowerment projects worldwide. For the last 18 years, she has been actively involved representing a variety of organizations at the United Nations, and is regularly invited to attend high level UN meetings, including International Criminal Court briefings to the UN Security Council regarding the situation in Sudan, quarterly meetings with the Assistant Secretary General for Human Rights, and recently moderated a high level expert panel on eliminating poverty through the Post-2015 Development agenda.
In addition to being president of the Zonta Club of New York City and a Zonta International UN Representative, Staci is a member of the New York Women’s Agenda’s Domestic Violence Committee. She is passionate about women’s rights and advancing the lives of women and girls worldwide.
Staci’s mother, Suzanne Alziebler, lives locally and is a member of the Zonta Club of SCV.
If you would like to attend this informative presentation on October 8 at 6:30 p.m. – there will be a cash bar, a light dinner available to order, and a great opportunity to meet women in the SCV who are interested in improving the status of women locally and worldwide. Please RSVP to 661-252-9351 ext. 3 (programs).
