This is an exciting time of year for children as they create their wish lists and have visions of the gifts that they “must have.” However, as we grow older we begin to realize that part of the true excitement and joy of this season is in giving gifts rather than receiving them. At the Saugus Union School District, we experience the excitement and joy of giving and receiving gifts all year long.
The parents and community entrust us with their children every day and our ability to assist them and encourage them as they grow, learn, develop into young adults are some of the best gifts that we could ask for.
Children have an excitement and curiosity that is contagious. The way children look at the world around them and how they learn and adapt to their environment is amazing. Working with your children reminds us that life is a gift and there are truly fascinating discoveries to be found in things that adults view as mundane. Joy is found in discovering the way words rhyme, how a rainbow is created, or in solving a difficult mathematics problem all on your own. These are gifts that we give and receive on a daily basis.
During the hurry and responsibilities of this season, take a minute and reflect on this time of year through the eyes of a child. The wonder, discovery, and excitement will be gifts that lift your spirits and remind you of your excitement during this time of year when you were a child.
