Fifteen years ago the Kennedy family made the most important decision they would have to make when it came to their children: the decision to invest in a private, Christian school education, specifically SCCS.
“I always wanted our kids to go to a Christian school,” said Lia, mom of SCCS students Wyatt – 7th grade; Mackenzie – 10th grade and Kate, a sophomore at Moody Bible Institute. “What I love most about SCCS, besides the excellent academics, are the amazing teachers. All of them treat the students as if they were their own.”

The Kennedys were not naïve to think that a Christian school wouldn’t have its own challenges. Lia has worked as a teacher in the public schools and her husband Wiley is the Lead Pastor in Discipleship at Grace Baptist Church. “When you are in high school a lot of stuff happens,” said Lia. “The difference at SCCS is that it is viewed and dealt with in a biblical way, addressing both the problem and the heart of the child. The teachers and the administration are invested in these kids’ lives, all working towards the same goal.”
Wiley and Lia’s son Wyatt entered 7th grade this year and has enjoyed the relationships he’s made with high school students on campus. “Because SCCS is a K-12 school, Wyatt has been able to be around the older students,” said Lia. “This is true discipleship lived out: life on life.”
The Kennedy’s daughter Kate is pursuing her degree in missions. Kate first learned about missionaries in the third grade. “Mrs. McKean introduced the students to a missionary, Amy Carmichael,” said Lia. “Mrs. McKean volunteered as a missionary herself and poured into my daughter’s life. Kate’s vocation was sparked in the third grade!”
Their daughter Mackenzie, who is a sophomore, has had the opportunity to play multiple sports at SCCS. “Mackenzie is involved in volleyball, basketball and softball,” said Lia.
Reflecting back over the last 15 years, the Kennedy’s are certain their decision will impact a lifetime.
If you are looking for a distinctively Christian education for your child, consider attending Kindergarten Preview Day on March 4 or come tour SCCS every third Tuesday of the month.
Serving grades K-12, SCCS pursues academic excellence, promotes spiritual growth and encourages character development in order to produce students who are prepared to make a difference in the world for God.
