There isn’t a single crafted or manufactured object that did not pass through an artist’s hands. We plan with diagrams, schematics, floor plans, blueprints, drawings, and so much more that take the artistic touch to design. Think of our world. Everything we see that is human-made was an idea that became a reality through some form of art. Book designs, web designs, advertising, marketing – all from the hands of artists.
Our world is filled with art everywhere we look, but most of us never think of ordinary things as having stemmed from the artist’s eye. Art is an essential skill for life, as it touches so many areas of life. The best part of it, it is fun to learn and satisfying to that part of us that has a creative drive. Studies have shown over and over that students who participate in the arts score higher on standardized tests and do better in academic achievement.
Art education is sorely lacking in our educational system, and should be one of the most important subjects taught. It teaches students to see more clearly, think more critically, tap into their natural, creative abilities and opens so many possibilities in this ever-changing world of ours.
