Last week I was fortunate enough to make another visit to the Getty Museum on the hill above the 405 freeway in Los Angeles. Every time I drive close to the Getty Center exit and see that beautiful, travertine marble edifice on top of the mountain, my heart quickens and my anticipation heightens to know I will be walking there soon.
Currently, the show Zeitgeist: Art in the Germanic World 1800-1900 is showing there, and features many artists from that period who were extremely proficient in the details of drawing. This show is a wonderful education for young artists who are learning to draw, as they would see amazing skill they could aspire to someday have.
Coming soon to the Getty is the J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851) show, which will be on until May 24, 2015. Turner was called the “Father of Impressionism” and when you see his paintings, you know why. For only a minimal parking fee, a whole afternoon of art is available to families, and what a great outing it is! The permanent collection is bursting with Rembrandts and Titians, Rubens, and so many other great masters.
We, at KidsArt, encourage families to include art education as an integral piece of a whole base of knowledge every child should be exposed to throughout their growing years. We offer classical drawing and painting classes at our Valencia studio. Visit us at www.KidsArtClasses.com to see our program. We offer a free introductory art class as well.
