On April 28 at College of the Canyons football stadium, Nissan of Valencia, coordinated by the Executive Manager of Nissan of Valencia Dan Sterkel, hosted their fifth annual Nissan Car giveaway. Hart District students were put in a drawing to win two 2015 Nissan Versas, based off of their attendance and grade point average, and runner-ups received over 85 cash prizes and gift cards that were donated by local Santa Clarita businesses.
Eligible students had to have a 97 percent attendance or higher and a 2.0 GPA and higher between the months of October and March.
One student from each of the nine school were selected by their principals and teachers as a recipient of the Nissan of Valencia Service Award, an award for outstanding community service. Each student chose a car key, and the key that started one of the two cars became the brand new owner. West Ranch senior Jessy Holen was the first winner of the night. Three runner-ups won a cash prize of $500. The winners included Jeffrey Emmert from Saugus, Kimberly Montana from Valencia, and Danielle Desch from Canyon High School. Finishing up the evening was the final drawing to win the last car. Four names were drawn and, like the first drawing, each were given a key to test out and see if it started the Versa. Junior Sam Hafermalz from Saugus High School was the lucky winner of the 2015 Nissan Versa generously donated by the car dealership.
The event was a huge success and left many lucky and grateful Hart District students walking away with a brand new car or cash and gift card prize.
