On Friday, May 1 the Santa Clarita Artists’ Association (SCAA) presented Scholarship Awards at Barnes & Noble in Valencia.
“It was a wonderful evening of celebration, light refreshments, much support for the SCAA and our scholarship program,” said Pat Thayer, Chair of the Scholarship Committee.
“We saw the remarkable efforts of many high school students, specifically those who have set personal goals that include careers in the world of art,” Thayer said. “Thank you, teachers, for your efforts to teach, inspire and encourage your students. Each year we see evidence of your influences on your students as the level of excellence continues.”
And the winners are: First Place – Michael Casteneda, of West Ranch High School was awarded $1,000. Second place went to Alicia Yang, of Saugus High School. She will receive $750 and third went to Robert Cortez Navarro, of Golden Valley High School, who will receive $500.
“To the students, thank you for sharing your time and work with this committee. It is very exciting to see so many showing evidence of such creative thinking, solid training and wonderful talent.” Thayer said, “We encourage you to continue your creative development, your art experimentation and your love of art. We wish you success in your training and in whatever avenue you pursue.”
A survey of SCAA members indicated that the scholarship program is an essential part of who we are as an organization.
