An omelette or omelet is a dish most people are familiar with. It is a dish made from beaten eggs cooked quickly using butter or oil in a frying pan. Most omelettes are folded around a filling using either cheese, vegetables, herbs, meats or many times a combination of everything.  The French word, “omelette” came into being during the mid-16th century.

According to legend of the annual giant Easter omelette when Napoleon Bonaparte and his army were traveling through southern France they decided to rest for the night near the town of Bessiéres. It is said Napoleon feasted on an omelette by a local innkeeper that was such a cooking delight and very delicious that he ordered the townspeople to gather all the eggs in the village to prepare a huge omelette for his army the very next day.
