It has come to my attention that the lack of interest in the visual arts seems to exist in the SCV community… Can this be true?  If so why do people say they do not think residents in SCV are interested in the importance of the arts… especially visual arts!  Right now there are no art galleries in SCV.

In the past there was one by the Hyatt and it closed. Then there was one on Sierra Highway and it closed.
For visitors to Santa Clarita to find places that exhibit visual art works such as different styles of painting there are few places to see art being exhibited for the public in Santa Clarita.
City hall has visual art displayed on their walls and the Newhall Library on Lyons Avenue opposite Main Street has art exhibits on their walls. Why is it that there are no existing art galleries?  Westfield Valencia Town Center has visual art exhibits for the public to view in the hallways while shopping.  The Santa Clarita Artist Association wants to have their own art gallery and is working to earn money to be able to rent a space to be the art gallery they need for exhibiting Visual Art of the members. It is time to realize that the word “art” is existing all around us.  When we define “art” as designs created by people to make buildings, houses, cars, clothes, stores, streets, bridges, factories, most of the things in our environment have been built by people, and they exist because people have designed them, yet people do not realize or appreciate the importance of how art interacts in our lives every day.
