Whether you are a new parent or have seniors about to venture out into the world, it can be a struggle at times to help chart a clear path for your child’s success. Every age has its challenges, rewards, and difficulties. The Greek philosopher Democritus once said “Raising children is an uncertain thing; success is reached only after a life of battle and worry.”
There are so many choices available that it is hard to figure out what to do at times. In addition, you are trying to help make choices for a young person who often has emerging and ever-changing interests. I liken it to putting together a puzzle with two different boxes of pieces and no picture to follow.
Every child is different. Your child could be a 500 or 5000 piece puzzle. However, if you are like me, there are two basic things I like to have when putting a puzzle together; the picture and border pieces. The picture helps me know what the end result is supposed to look like: the goal. Our kids can seem to be all over the map from day to day. However, from personal experience, it is all part of what makes them unique. It can be scary during those emotional leaps from one year to another unless you have the big picture or goal in mind from the very beginning.
Secondly, when putting a puzzle together I look for the border pieces. The border serves as a boundary to know where the puzzle ends. It is the job of children and young adults to test the boundaries, so that he/she can learn about reality. It is our job to withstand the test and hold true to the boundaries in order to help them grow and mature into successful and thriving adults.
This is why choosing the right school for your child is so important. At every age the school environment paints a picture of what success looks like and either encourages or discourages students to find a good fit.
