As we reflect on the 2014-2015 school year in the Sulphur Springs School District, we are so very proud of all our students’ accomplishments. Throughout the year, our students have shared their learning in technology, music, the arts, computer programming, science, engineering, and a host of academic and creative areas proving that they are truly 21st century learners.
In October we held our STAR Celebration Awards that recognized a record number of students scoring Proficient or Advanced on the California Science Test. In December our District Band and Chorus held their winter concerts to a packed audience. January brought extensive work with iPads as students worked together to demonstrate their understanding of science and social studies grade level standards. In March we honored 196 students who were redesignated proficient in English. April brought our first ever STEAM Expo which showcased the project based learning STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) activities of our district’s sixth graders, as well as the computer programming of our fifth grade after school coding clubs and our K/1 Coding Club. It also brought forth our annual GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) Night where our GATE students showcased their creativity and problem solving skills. Finally, in May our Young Authors took to the stage and read from their published stories that will be showcased in our school libraries.
As we look towards the 2015-2016 school year, we are pleased to be continuing our mission of offering our students 21st century learning opportunities that allow them to grow, shine, and truly be prepared for the world of tomorrow. Schools will pilot in school coding lessons for all students. Our students will continue to access rigorous nonfiction text, analyze word problems and explore science and social studies topics. All students will have access to technology on a daily basis to explore their academics. Sulphur Springs Students are 21st century thinkers, doers and workers!
