ART-CTGSunshine-p1-ad“Fifty-seven years in this business, you learn a few things. You know what words are funny and which words are not funny. Alka Seltzer is funny. You say “Alka Seltzer” you get a laugh. Words with “k” in them are funny. Casey Stengel, that’s a funny name. Robert Taylor is not funny. Cupcake is funny.

Tomato is not funny. Cookie is funny. Cucumber is funny. Car keys. Cleveland.  Cleveland is funny. Maryland is not funny. Then, there’s chicken. Chicken is funny. Pickle is funny.” Excerpt from The Sunshine Boys― Neil Simon
As Mary Poppins floats magically into the PAC, The Sunshine Boys will be filling the Canyon Theatre Guild with laughter and old man antics! This classic Neil Simon comedy insightfully celebrates the early-20th-century art of vaudeville while at the same time captures the frustration and isolation of aging — and does so hilariously!  Al Lewis and Willy Clark are a pair of feuding former vaudeville comedians who performed together for 47 years before finally calling it quits. Despite their celebrated reputation, the two old men have not spoken in over a decade. Clark’s nephew Ben, a theatrical agent, is trying to get the two to perform together on CBS special on comedy — and it proves to be an almost impossible task.  This hilarious, classic comedy opens Saturday, August 1, with performances Friday evenings at 8 p.m., August 21 and 28; Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. August 1, 8, 15, 22, 29; Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. August 2, 9, 16, 23.
Reservations can be made by calling the Canyon Theatre Guild box office at 661-799-2702.  The Canyon Theatre Guild is located at 24242 Main Street in Downtown Newhall.
