Roaring crowds filled the Westfield Valencia Town Center as the “Flame of Hope” was carried through the City of Santa Clarita. Kaiser Permanente was the Total Health Sponsor of the Special Olympics Summer World Games, and Kaiser’s physicians provided medical care to all athletes competing in the games.
They also had several physicians donate time to the Special Olympics; these physicians were known as “Special Olympics Physician Champions,” and they attended the welcome breakfast in Santa Clarita. Along with breakfast, the Physician Champions had the honor of running with the Flame of Hope on July 23. Special Olympics Southern California enriches the lives of more than 20,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities and their communities throughout Southern California through sports, education, and athlete health. They also provide year-round sports training in a variety of Olympic-type sports, giving the athletes the resources to strive during the games! Santa Clarita Valley was honored to have been apart of such a historic event.
