Breast cancer is a disease in which the cancer cells form in the tissues of the breast and the damaged cells start to take over the tissue around it, but with early detection and treatment many people continue to live a normal life. This month happens to be Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so here are some facts that you should know about Breast cancer.
However in more recent years there has been a prospective hormone replacement therapy after menopause, and doctors have seen a gradual reduction in female breast cancer incidence rates in women that are age 50 or older. Death rates in breast cancer have been continuously declining since 1990, and are due to screening and early detection, along with increased awareness and evolving medical treatments.
• Breast cancer is the mostly commonly diagnosed cancer in women.
• Although breast cancer in men is very rare, there is an estimated 2,150 men who will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and 410 will die each year.
• Each year it is estimated that over 220,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer.
• One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
There are also several myths about what exactly causes breast cancer. Caffeine, deodorant, microwaves, cell phones, all do not cause breast cancer according to the National Breast Cancer website. Women that have certain risk factors are more prone to develop breast cancer risk factors that may increase the chances of someone getting cancer, include genetics, and environmental.
Some genetic subcategories also include: gender, age, race, personal health, menstrual and reproductive history, genome changes, and dense breast tissue. Environmental risk factors include: lack of physical activity, poor diet, being overweight, drinking alcohol, radiation to the chest, and combined hormone replacement therapy.
