Celebrity Sightings
Everyone step aside! Dick Van Dyke is in the building – at Kokolitas! Owner Martha Aguilera met Dick Van Dyke at her retro bakery, which is known for their cupcakes and empanadas. Van Dyke starred in a number of films during his acting career, such as “Mary Poppins” and “Chitty Band Bang” just to name a few. He is also a winner of four Emmys and has made three CBS movies. Off the silver screen, Van Dyke often hosted game shows when he took a break from his acting career, hosting shows like “Mothers Day” and “Laugh Line.” He also won Broadway’s 1961 Tony Award for Best Supporting or Featured Actor for “Bye, Bye Birdie,” as well as a Grammy for the “Mary Poppins” soundtrack.
Another celebrity sighting was the legendary hip-hop artist Ice-T, spotted by Santa Clarita native Bert Lieberman. As a musician, Ice-T had a major influence on the creation of gangster rap and the incarnation of hip-hop music. Through his music he was able to raise political awareness of hot topics such as racism. Ice-T also had a successful acting career; he played Detective Odafin Tutuola on the famous television series “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.”
