Leona Cox
Through the rolling hills of our small valley, Leona Cox sits in a lovely community of families that are dedicated to their children’s education.
We are already off and “racing” with our AR. Our school theme keeps our kids focused on the prize of comprehension all year long. This year begins a new chapter for our Special Ed Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten as they are now in school all day. It will be great to see them flourish! Kudos to our fifth graders and their teachers as our science scores soared. It is pretty clear that our Cougars are budding scientists and critical thinkers.
The upper graders are using chrome books and iPads regularly for presentations and STEAM is moving right along with them. Classroom instruction will incorporate the many instruments of technology that we have as well as the use of our Computer and Science Labs. The Leona Cox teachers are fully engaging our kids with Common Core, NGSS, GLAD, technology, CAFE/Daily 5, and our math. Wait! Bee-Bots have also invaded and all of the kids will be coding this year.
We are thrilled that Mrs. Fischer will be continuing on with Leona Cox and are so excited to have Ms. Chicoine back with her LC family. Part of our staff development this year will focus on a book study about neuroscience and our students’ brains. Did you know that brains do not fully develop until about age 20 for girls and 24 for boys?
Our annual Harvest Festival will be “creeping up” on us soon. Mark your calendars for October 29. This event is widely attended by the community and we would love to see everyone in costume! Thanks to our PTA for sponsoring the event. Everything seems to be on cruise control as 2015-2016 races on!
