Millennials – Connected and Innovative
What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the world “millennial”? Do the words hipster, lazy, or tech savvy come to mind? For those of you that don’t know who millennial are, they are the age group of people who were born between 1980 and 2000. The Millennial workforce is here to take over, and take charge.
Lets face it there are a total of 80 million of us, and we are the largest age group in the history. We are all different from country to country, however because of social media our generation worldwide is more similar than past generations on the global scale. According to Times Magazine in a recent article, “In the U.S Millennial are the children of baby boomers, who are also known as the “Me Generation”, whose selfishness technology has only exacerbated. Millennial have come of age in the era of the quantified self, recording their daily steps on FitBit, their whereabouts every hour of every day on Twitter, and have a tendency to expect nothing but the best.”
Many companies are now just starting to adjust to millennials and their atmospheric expectations. Almost 2,200 of DreamWorks employees are under 30 years of age according to DreamWorks website. Many people would classify the millennials generation as narcissistic, and entitled. Now a day many seminars to managers will have to be about how to deal with their young employees who go straight to the source, and try to weasel their way out of boring projects or how to handle their creative out of the box suggestions.
When it comes down to it all millennials are probably one of the largest generations that we will have for a long time. They love instant results, and always invest their time in things that will some how benefit them in the long run, they love to socialize and network, they are constantly connected to the world and new arising information, and will always accept nothing but the best. And are dedicated to trial and error by being productive and creative.
