A Note From the Publishers – November 2015
As most of the country finishes celebrating women’s issues in October, we’re carrying our appreciation into November, paying tribute to 13 of Santa Clarita’s leading ladies on our cover. As you scan the cover, notice that these women have either planned an event to empower women in the community, or are being recognized for their good work. In short, they’re building a better community for us all, and we’re so excited to see what they have in store for us at Sunset in the Vineyard, Zonta Tribute to Women and Empowering HeArts!
Sunset in the Vineyard kicks off the month with an elegant evening of casual luxury on November 1. In a historic Newhall neighborhood, guests are invited to dine and drink the finest SCV has to offer while they relax in a backyard vineyard. Take a moment to toast to autumn, and let the November festivities begin!
Zonta Club of SCV is the first to recognize influential women this month with their Tribute to Women dinner on November 6. This year’s honoree is Elizabeth Hopp, who has been a leader in her industry and a blessing to this community throughout her years of service. Following the Zonta Tribute, Single Mothers Outreach celebrates women and the arts at Empowering HeArts on November 7, wrapping up a wonderful weekend of female empowerment. This year’s honorees are being celebrated for their perseverance, as they have demonstrated incredible strength in the face of constant challenge. We take our hats off to you, ladies!
On November 12, we turn our focus to the next generation of leaders as we join the Santa Clarita Valley Jaycees in honoring the 40 Under Forty recipients. The annual recognition dinner, held at TPC Valencia, brings together SCV’s young and emerging leaders to recognize their contribution to the community.
Turning from celebration to remembrance, Light the Night encourages awareness and support for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on November 14. Possibly the most moving part of the event comes together when attendees send lanterns into the night sky in remembrance.
The Jacob Zamora Memorial Shoot provides another chance to remember those who’ve passed, transforming loss into positive change. The annual event, held at the Oak Tree Gun Club, benefits the Jacob Zamora Memorial Foundation. Give this event a shot on November 14.
Once you finish up at the gun club, head over to the Hold ‘Em Not Hassle ‘Em Poker Tournament benefitting the SCV Youth Project on November 14. We encourage you to take a chance on this organization, and the children it supports. Odds are you’ll be happy you did!
One thing you won’t have to take a chance on is shopping for local products and services. With our Holiday Beauty and Dining Guides, we’ve got your weekend of shopping covered from your first purchase to your final bite. And once you’re ready to set those shopping bags down and take your new purchases out on the town, we’ve got the Arts & Entertainment Directory to help you find the perfect occasion to show off those new shoes!
Also in this issue is an abundance of event coverage from October’s hottest events. If you attended, flip through the pages and check out our On The Town features – you may recognize someone! If you missed an event, we have more than 300 photographs in this issue to help you feel like you were there.
As if there wasn’t enough to celebrate in this issue, we’re very excited to announce that this year’s Dancing With Our Stars event raised a record-breaking amount for Santa Clarita non-profits. Once proceeds from the event itself were added to community fundraising, the event totaled more than $319,000. Look inside to see the organizations that benefited!
Lastly, we’d like to recognize the women who’ve built up the local business community with their influence, strength and savvy. Congratulations to the élite Ultimate Ladies in Business! We’re so proud of your accomplishments!
Until next time,
Linda, Moe and Alexander Hafizi
