DVC of SCV: Building Healthier, Happier Families
Promoting education and empowerment, the Domestic Violence Center of SCV hosted events throughout October in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Two events, the Clothesline Project and the Purple Walk of Strength, went beyond typical fundraising duties and strove for more: to impact lives and encourage women and families to be healthier and happier every day. And it worked. The good vibes and positive momentum were palpable at both events, as participants felt the support of the community around them.
The Clothesline Project invited survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault to break the silence by writing about their experiences on T-shirts, which were then hung throughout Savia Community Center. Attendees were encouraged to read the messages, bearing witness to domestic violence and sexual assault as it affects our community.
Then on October 17, survivors and supporters laced up their walking shoes and ran through purple cornstarch for the Purple Walk of Strength at College of the Canyons. An invigorating celebration of strength and empowerment, the event closed with raffles and shaved ice as families enjoyed the morning and took a moment to celebrate their power.
