Google Comes to Valencia High School Representatives demonstrate virtual field trip
I remember anytime I went on a field trip it meant no class, no long lectures, and getting out of school early. Imagine being able to take a field trip anywhere around the world – without leaving your classroom.
At Valencia High School on October 9, high school students were able to take virtual reality field trips from the Galapagos Islands to Paris to swimming with sharks.
It was Computer Science teacher Jerry Ostrove who applied for the Google Expedition program, which brings a team to high schools to conduct virtual field trips in various classrooms.
“It was kind of a shot in the dark. I received an email about the Google Expeditions Team and decided to apply,” Jerry said. “We are very big in computer science here at Valencia High School. We offer two computer Java software classes and introduction HTML computer classes.”
“We are looking to bring this type of technology into all classrooms,” said Lindsey Obrien, one of the Google Expedition Team members. “It’s a great opportunity for students and teachers and completely free; you just need to meet the requirements.”
