Sulphur Springs Union School Districts’ Dedicated teachers
Plus student creativity plus innovative technology equal student success. Walk into any Sulphur Springs Union School District classroom today and you are witnessing student learning in a 21st century school district. Students are active learners in the classroom collaborating with peers to inquire, research, explain and investigate work. All classrooms within the Sulphur Springs Union School District are equipped with at least one Smart Board, 1:3 iPads, and Sound System. Teachers and students are utilizing these engaging tools to expand teaching and learning.
Kindergartners are creating their own blogs on iPads and then sharing them with their fellow classmates. In a third grade classroom, students partake in a digital scavenger hunt where they utilize QR codes placed around the classroom to solve math and language arts questions posed. They then scan the codes with iPads and solve the questions digitally. Students in sixth grade work in small groups with iPads to create a presentation of learning that they will share digitally with the entire class on their SMART Boards.
Teachers share that they love using technology in their classroom. It allows the students to collaborate, showcase what they know, and take their learning to the next level. This generation of kids are naturally techie savvy, so it feels good to be on board. Technology certainly creates a buzz of excitement and promotes creativity amongst the students.
Throughout the District students have the opportunity to attend after school coding and robotics classes. This is the second year that fifth graders have the opportunity to learn how to code and will create an animation or game. Sixth graders will participate in a pilot Robotics class and create a simple robot. First and second graders will begin experiencing coding by using Bee Botts and Dash and Dots. These students will showcase their work at the Sulphur Springs Union School District STEAM Expo to be held at Mitchell Community School on April 20 at 6:30 p.m.
These are just a few examples of the exciting 21st Century learning opportunities being created by combining the latest technology with creative students and dedicated teachers of the Sulphur Springs Union School District.
