Trust
I recently satisfied a mistrustful client who had had many negative experiences with the construction industry. She was so mistrustful that she could hardly state what the problem was that she was having without trying to tell me exactly how to fix it. She was making the problem much worse than it turned out to be and she absolutely did not trust me to give her accurate information. At this point in the call, I knew I could help her and for much less money that she was expecting. I also needed her to tell me what the symptoms were, not what she thought the solution was. She was so fearful that any ambiguity would cost her money. To book the appointment, I finally told her what I thought it would cost to fix and also that if she wasn’t happy with us, she didn’t have to pay us anything!
My employee, Scott, arrived and did his usual professional best. This client was so relieved that she has left positive reviews and called to personally thank me. Her problem was straightforward and cost only $149 to fix. I knew we could help her and that we operate ethically but she didn’t.
Check out a company’s review on Yelp, Angie’s List and the BBB. Check the contractor’s state license board (cslb.ca.gov) to make sure their license and insurance is up to snuff. If they hold up in all of these areas (as we do), you will probably have a professional, good experience.
