Scorpion Design Kicks Off Charity Competition
The Scorpion Design team is defined by a desire to give back and a playfully competitive spirit —and when those two characteristics combine, the internet marketing firm produces an extremely successful charity competition.
Each year, all 270-plus Scorpion employees break into teams and try to raise the most money for their selected non-profit as a way to give back and bond as a company. Last year, teams collectively raised $45,000 over a four-week period. This year, four teams aim to raise $50,000 each over five weeks, for a grand total of $200,000 in non-profit donations.
“We enjoy helping people outside of our company,” said Kylie Patterson, Director of PR, Events, & Recruitment at Scorpion, “And it’s good for us to bond together while doing something that’s bigger than ourselves and even business.”
Once employee teams are established, each chooses a non-profit. This year, Scorpion has selected the Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children’s Cancer, A Light of Hope, The Dawg Squad, and City of Hope. These non-profits are close to the hearts of many Scorpion employees.
“These charities are all important to the Scorpion team. For example, one employee survived a battle with leukemia thanks in part to a bone marrow match at City of Hope,” said Kylie. “Multiple dogs have been adopted by employees via The Dawg Squad.”
Scorpion teams are reaching out to friends, family, clients, and more via social media to raise funds. Community members can join the competition and donate through four online pages, now receiving donations through December 4.
The competition is supported by Scorpion Cares, the non-profit branch of Scorpion Design that was created by Kylie in 2011 as a way to invest in the community that supports them as well as the hometown of the majority of their employees. “We work in a really collaborative environment, so we enjoy activities that promote our team-based attitude,” said Kylie. “We love the opportunity to feel like we’re working on something meaningful together.”
