Empowering HeArts Enriching Lives
For those of you who are not familiar with Empowering HeArts, it is the annual celebration of women who have changed lives and shaped their communities. It helps bridge the worlds of social action and artistic expression in an annual arts competition. All the Honorees are nominated by the community and selected by an event committee. This year the Empowering HeArts took place at the Savia Community Center on November 7. The Gala showcased the honorees and the artist’s artwork showcased to the public for the first time. Local dignitaries, family and friends gathered to read the stories of each honoree and learn who were the Grand Prize and People’s Choice Award Winners. This year, the theme was Perseverance, a tribute to inner strength and courage. This year’s Grand Prize winner was Jennifer Calderon, and Kirby Lanier was the Winner of People’s Choice Award.
