Holiday Time
When one thinks of December, the holidays are first to come to mind. Our thoughts are filled with tinsel, wrapping, parties, and food. When we teach our children about the holidays of course we talk about giving to others, love, and family. Those are universal themes, whether Christian, Jewish, Muslim, or anything else. The story of Hanukah is about miracles in the midst of battle. It’s about doing what’s right even when it’s hard. So when we surround our CBS kids with songs, decorations, and the heavenly smell of fresh made latkes (potato pancakes), we also instill these ideals through sharing stories and teaching about giving.
In addition to our usual holiday projects and get togethers, the preschool parent council will be putting up a box this year where our kids can donate to other children like themselves that don’t have as much. So simply walking through our lobby, we can encourage thinking of others and giving back to not just the school, but to other kids in our own community for the holidays.
So whether you have a tree with lights, Santa letter, and hot cocoa or menorahs, dreidles and gelt, you can share together in the real meaning of the holidays and teach your children that giving and sharing with everyone is important no matter who you are. We can always do more and at CBS Preschool that’s exactly what we’re doing!
