The Canyon Theatre Guild’s Magnificent Musical Christmas Carol Presents a Well-Known SCV Personality as Scrooge
The well-loved tale of the penny-pinching miser, Ebenezer Scrooge and the awakening of forgotten festive spirit is an important part of the holidays ever year for millions. This year the Canyon Theatre Guild will present a spectacular musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’s most well-known story with A Christmas Carol, The Musical.
The remarkable actor who plays the role of Ebenezer Scrooge is Mr. TimBen Boydston, executive/artistic director of the Canyon Theatre Guild and Santa Clarita City Councilman. This is the sixth time Mr. Boydston has played the role of Scrooge over the last 20-plus years. The message of this classic story holds special significance for him in many ways.
When asked why he comes back to the role time after time, he responded, “This character allows the actor to totally transform from one personality to another in the space of two hours. Through his interaction with the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future, Scrooge goes from a grouchy old miser to a jovial, compassionate, giving member of the community. The older I get, the more I realize the poignancy of the message it delivers — that it’s never too late to make great and positive change in our lives. Too many of us get caught up in our busy lives and we forget, or think we’re too old to change. During this holiday season of giving, this story gives all of us the opportunity for reflection, revival, redemption and rebirth. I am reminded each and every time I play this role that our next act on this stage we call life can be richer than that of our last. I felt it the first time I performed the role of Scrooge at the CTG up Sierra Hwy over 20 years ago and every time I play the role of Scrooge, I get to continue to deliver this great missive.”
A Christmas Carol, The Musical offers a cavalcade of colorful Dickensian characters and a ghostly foursome of guardians, but what makes this production truly unique is the addition of dazzling and joyous music and song, breathing new life into this treasured story and taking us on a very special journey to where the true meaning of the holiday season is found. The show opens Friday, November 27 and runs through December 21. Tickets are $19 for Adults and $17 for Seniors (62+) and Juniors (-18).
