The OutWest Concert Series Returns to Old Town Newhall
Returning as part of Thursdays@Newhall, SCVTV Presents The OutWest Concert Series continues at the Repertory East Playhouse on January 18, 2016 for another year of the best of Western music. Launched in 2009 by the creative team of the OutWest Boutique and Cultural Center, Jim and Bobbi Jean Bell, this entertaining acoustic music series presents award-winning performers to both a local and worldwide audience. Catch the most current concert on SCVTV every Friday at 3 p.m. and Saturday at 8 p.m., or choose an archived performance at www.scvtv.com.
Word has it the 2016 line up will, once again, present the best of the best! Watch this column for all concert details! Alumni of the SCVTV Presents The OutWest Concert Series include the multi-award winning Dave Stamey, Juni Fisher, Belinda Gail, Kristyn Harris, Katy Moffatt, New West and many more.
The original founders of series, the Bells, have brought a level of history, experience and expertise to the program throughout the years, making it the beloved, quality program it is today. As active members of the Western Music Association California Chapter, the Bells encourage and support the preservation, performance and composition of historic traditional and contemporary music and poetry of the West.
During the November 2015 Western Music Association Awards of Excellence, the Bells were honored with the prestigious Bill Wiley Award, which is presented to a non-performing member of the WMA for his or her outstanding support and promotion of Western music and Western way of life. This award recognized the Bells’ commitment to the SCVTV Presents The OutWest Concert Series, as well as the weekly online radio show Campfire Café, co-hosted by Bobbi Jean and Gary Holt on Equestrian Legacy Radio. Tune in every Thursday at 10 a.m. (www.equestrianlegacy.net) for lively conversation and music with a top Western performer and equestrian lifestyle guest.
More than just sharing Western music, the series aims to share the culture and history of Western music, which is the folk music of the Western lifestyle and vista. Some Western music has roots in English, Scottish, Irish and Welsh ballads, as well as musical influences from the European countries of immigrants who “went west;” some Western music even carries jazz and blues influences. Collectively, this music is inspired by the stories and landscape of life in the West.
