‘Tis the Season of Giving
The holiday season has arrived. The excitement of making a wish list is always fun for young and old alike. The question is how do you teach children about giving instead of getting?
At Creative Years our December pillar of Character Counts is Caring. We talk about ways we can care for others. Being compassionate and empathetic. Being charitable and altruistic. How we can help people in need and ways to make someone else’s life better. The children make small gifts and give them to their parents. We even pull names out of a hat and give art to friends and teachers.
Every year we team up with the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station and participate in their Annual Holiday Toy Drive. Toys are distributed to children in our community who are less fortunate.
The children at Creative Years are encouraged to go out and purchase a toy and deliver it to the large box or display table located in our front lobby. It is very difficult for our little friends to have self-control and understanding that these toys are for others and that they are not able to have them for themselves. Eventually the children walk by their item and proudly say, “I brought that one!” It goes to show that you are never too young to care for others and make a difference in someone’s life!
