Dog Training – Going Beyond Sit, Stay and Come
For most owners, when they hear the words dog training, they think of their dog learning to do basic commands like sit, stay and come as well as potty training. And for most of us, that is plenty of training, but in recent years dog training has taken on a whole new shape for dogs and owners alike. Training can also be used for exercise, socialization, behavior enrichment as well as an excellent bonding circumstance for the owner and dog. Here are some of the variety of training services and examples of the benefits.
• Basic Obedience – is specifically designed for dogs with no previous training and provides your dog a strong foundation of basic obedience. Untrained dogs lose focus easily and get distracted by irrelevant environment stimulation. This is why it is critical to teach come on command, no pulling on leash and “stay,” “leave it” and “sit” to manage inappropriate impulsive reactions.
• Puppy Raising – it is important to integrate a new puppy properly into a family especially with other dogs as this can set the standards for the puppy’s lifetime. Puppies need a specific regime to help them understand how to grow into healthy expectations for an adult dog. This includes teaching potty training, crate training, daily routines, no jump, no bite, socialization skills with people/pets, and comfort traveling.
• Sports and Agility – arguably the most fun any one can have with their pet are sports and agility games. These are for super-smart and/or highly athletic dogs that need more than a typical walk or run. Teach your dog to play Frisbee games, fetch a ball, perform dock dives, weave cones and more for a truly unique and fun bonding experience that lasts a lifetime.
• Rehabilitation – this is by far the most important and rewarding opportunity anyone can have with a dog. This requires special expertise, understanding the psychology and physiology of how and why dogs work. This expertise allows proper assessment, diagnoses and rehabilitation of a variety of issues ranging from abuse, neglect, aggressive behavior or skittish tendencies to allow for a happy, healthy and normal lifestyle for the dog and their owner.
If you are interested to learn more, start with a one-hour training and behavior enrichment consultation. This allows us to gather all the vital information we’ll need to provide a comprehensive and detailed plan to assess your dog’s training needs.
