The ‘Illustrious’ Bullshot Crummond’s Coming to the Canyon Theatre Guild
Get ready for a hair-raising romp and some big laughs! Get ready for a wild romp through a hair-raising, knee slapping 1930s spy spoof at the beautiful Canyon Theatre Guild as they proudly present Bullshot Crummond. Set in 1930s England, this funny and irreverent parody focuses on the nefarious plot by the dastardly duo Otto Von Bruno (the second most dangerous man in Europe) and his femme-fatale sidekick Lenya Von Bruno (think Boris and Natasha of Rocky and Bullwinkle fame) as they kidnap famous Professor Rupert Fenton and attempt to force him to hand over his treasured formula for making synthetic diamonds. The professor’s daughter, Rosemary Fenton, enlists the help of famed, but quirky detective Bullshot Crummond to help find her father and the hilarious romp begins!
Bullshot Crummond is truly a satire of cliché detective B-movies, and ambitiously stages wild thrills and spills traditionally reserved for the screen. Our man Crummond uses his multitude of ‘talents’ to solve the case, for in addition to being a crack detective, he is also a WWI flying ace, Olympic athlete, race car driver and dapper ladies’ man. These ‘talents’ all play out to hilarious effect as Bullshot and Rosemary pursue Otto and Lenya, plane crashes, sword fights, icy mountain cliff hangers — and even a naval sea battle, Bullshot Crummond-style.
The biggest laughs are drawn from the show’s intentionally low production values, including a hair-raising car chase in a cardboard cutout car — and the fact that our hero Crummond is somewhat of a buffoon savant. You see, he’s a detective so clever he can deduce a plane crash from a drop of jet fuel on a blade of grass, but when his arch nemesis is standing right in front of him in a bad wig, he’s absolutely clueless.
So put your family in your own cardboard car and get thee to the Canyon Theatre Guild to see the Bullshot Crummond to find out what other uproarious ploys are employed by our hero and have a chuckle-filled evening to boot! The show runs from January 29 to February 28, Fridays: January 29, February 5, 12, 26 at 8 p.m., Saturdays: January 30, February 6, 20, 27 at 8 p.m., Sundays: February 14 and 28 at 2 p.m.
