Finding the Perfect Engagement Ring
Like true love, diamonds are rare, precious and strong – qualities that have earned the diamond its status as a symbol of marriage for centuries. No other piece of jewelry says “love” more powerfully than a diamond engagement ring. It signifies commitment, trust and a lifetime of love. And when the moment comes to put a ring on a your bride’s finger, you want it to represent your unique love. So how do you pick the perfect engagement ring? These savvy tips will help you find the ring that fully expresses your love:
• When your bride puts on her ring, she won’t want to take it off to get it sized. Try to sneak a ring out of her drawer to get it sized before you pop the question.
• Once you’ve decided on a diamond, keep in mind that grades in the D-F Color Range will appear colorless. G-I can be considered near colorless, and anything below an I Color will have a slight yellow tint.
• Cuts below “Good” won’t give you the sparkle and luster you expect from a diamond, so stick to a “Good” cut.
• Try to determine if your bride prefers quality or size. For a bride who prefers quality, prioritize cut and higher color over carats.
• Diamonds aren’t limited in color to white. Black diamonds, yellow diamonds, and pink diamonds are some choices in the colored diamond market. Emeralds and sapphires are great diamond alternatives for the bride who wants something unique.
• Once you have decided on the diamond, turn your focus to the band and setting. Does she prefer a band with or without additional diamonds? If she prefers diamonds on the band, try to discern whether she wants a traditional band or a shape that’s more modern.
• Lastly, choose the setting. A prong setting is the most common, gripping the diamond tightly with a small metal claw. A bezel setting, a more modern look, encircles the diamond with a custom metal rim. A cathedral setting uses arches of metal to hold up the diamond, presenting it elegantly. A halo setting encircles the main diamond with smaller diamonds. There are many more settings, and each lends a specialized look to the ring.
Remember, an engagement ring will be worn for a lifetime, so you’ll want to enlist the help of a professional when choosing.
