Meet the Board of Trustees College of the Canyons
The Santa Clarita Community College District Board of Trustees works to help create a successful higher education experience for students at College of the Canyons. In representing the public interest, the board establishes policies that define the institutional mission of the college, and assure fiscal health, academic excellence, and overall institutional quality. The board advocates on the district’s behalf, working with elected officials to shape policy and fiscal decisions that impact the college. The board is also charged with evaluating the college’s chief executive officer, Chancellor Dr. Dianne Van Hook.
The board members are chosen by public election, and the Santa Clarita Community College District recently changed the method by which members of the Board of Trustees are elected. Beginning with the November 2016 election, elections will be held in even-number years and trustees will be elected to represent specific geographic areas.
The Magazine of Santa Clarita is pleased to introduce the College of the Canyons Board of Trustees: Bruce D. Fortine, President; Steven D. Zimmer, Vice President; Michael D. Berger, Clerk; Michele R. Jenkins, Member; and Joan W. MacGregor, member.
