Saugus Union Announces Superintendent of Business Services
The Saugus Union School District announced the hiring of Dr. Victor P. Hayek as the district’s new Assistant Superintendent for Business Services. Dr. Hayek joins SUSD from his previous position as Superintendent of the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District in Bridgewater, New Jersey. The district incorporates 11 schools from K-12 and serves nearly 9,000 students.
“We feel very fortunate to have been able to hire someone of Dr. Hayek’s tremendous ability and background,” said Dr. Joan Lucid, Superintendent of Saugus Union School District. “His wide breadth of experience – from police officer to teacher to school board member – gives us a wonderful new voice to add to the talented team we already have in place. We are excited to have Victor join us.”
The position of Assistant Superintendent for Business Services oversees the business and financial services, including the Facilities Management, Fiscal Services and Maintenance and Operations of the district.
Prior to his current position, Dr. Hayek served as first Assistant Superintendent for Business then Superintendent for the Pequannock Township Public School District, also located in New Jersey. He held similar positions with the North Caldwell Public School District and the St. Dominic Academy in New Jersey.
Dr. Hayek also spent six years as a police officer and Police Academy instructor in the Wayne Township Police Department, as well as a more than a decade as an adjunct professor at William Paterson University.
“We are entering a pivotal time in the district, and Dr. Hayek’s skills and experiences will help us navigate through the impending impact of the state budget,” added Judy Egan Umeck, President of the Saugus Union School District Governing Board.
According to Dr. Hayek, the reason to leave New Jersey was a simple one for he and his family – his wife Angela and their three children; Jonathan, 9; Samantha, 8 and Jake, nearly 3.
“Beyond the opportunity to become part of the team at one of the most highly respected districts in the state, it was about the lure of a better lifestyle. California provides a tremendous amount of opportunity to explore new cultural experiences from the beaches to the mountains and everything in between.”
