Spring Time…Time to Improve Your Home
Have you been putting off those home repairs longer than you should? Doing so can cost you big money, and your property value will suffer. While the economy in California has slightly improved, the price for home improvements has not kept pace with the dramatic housing price jumps. But this is going to change in 2016. Prices for many building materials are starting to go up due to El Nino, and El Nino is causing construction delays for roofing as well as other exterior work.
While you may have had good reasons for putting off your repairs and maintenance, it would be a good idea to start prioritizing those needed repairs now, not later. Many repairs can include energy saving upgrades and rebates, and those rebates will help pay for your improvements. Several repairs and maintenance can qualify for the California Home Upgrade plan, which is managed by The Energy Network. The California Upgrade plan offers rebates from $3,000 to $6,500. Rebates are offered for windows, heating and air conditioning systems, insulation, exterior coatings, and cool roofing products. Most of these improvements qualify for easy financing terms of 5, 10 15, 20, and 25 years.
Installing energy saving products is your best defense for the out of control energy bills facing you each year. While gasoline prices are currently down, the experts are predicting higher energy prices due to the five-year drought, and even if the rain fall increases this year, it will take three to five years of above average rain fall to stabilize energy prices. Electricity and natural gas prices are increasing each year by an average of six to seven percent annually. The utility companies are setup for these automatic price increases, because they are regulated by the California Public Utility Commission (PUC). They are a provider, and your home is a user. Making your home energy efficient is like putting money in the bank.
