Panorama Eggs
If you are looking for a fun Easter craft that can be saved and shown for years to come then Sugar Eggs or Panorama Sugar eggs are the ticket! Of course, dying Easter eggs are fun and the traditional thing to do for this holiday but if you want something to show for many years then give this a try, you won’t regret it.
The shells are made by packing sugar and water mixture into two molds. When the outside has hardened, the remaining sugar is scooped out and recycled into another egg. Royal frosting binds the halves together, frames the window and becomes a decorative element component. Inside your egg you can make a world of bunnies, ducks, and tiny eggs or whatever your fancy!
These beautiful eggs go way back and the hollow sugar egg was a relic of Victorian Easter traditions and had a peephole at one end of the egg. The inside was a mini scene of flowers, rabbits and spring edible frosting. These eggs were a diorama of springtime and colored eggs and were loved by all!
The inspiration for these eggs are believed to have come from the Faberge Imperial Eggs made for Russian royalty at the turn of the century. Dinner traditionally served was usually rabbit and eggs for Easter Sunday. The symbolism attached is to rebirth and renewal and the advent of spring. Children have always been fascinated discovering the charming scenes that are cleverly tucked inside. Panorama Eggs are hard to resist eating and are 100% edible. Traditionally given as Easter gifts, panorama eggs are inexpensive to make but leave a lasting impression.
