Rediscover the Kid in You – Bricks 4 Kidz offers unique learning experience for parent and child
As kids, we’re constantly amazed by the simplest things; a book, insect or toy can bring hours of happiness and exploration. Yet, as we grow into adulthood, we tend to lose that sense of childlike wonder – and discover it once again when we bring our own children into the world, returning to interests, dreams and passions that were once the center of our universe.
Carol Lovell, now a franchise owner of Bricks 4 Kidz, spent 18 years as an insurance manager before she decided a return to her childhood interests was exactly what she needed.
“I was hooked on Harry Potter, and my son loved building these elaborate LEGO® sets,” Carol said of her mother-son playtime. Soon her house was filled with LEGO® figurines and elaborate creations that brought her and her son immense happiness.
“After a while, I started working on the LEGOs with him as a stress reliever,” she recalled, “and I thought to myself: ‘I should make this into a business.”
Then Carol found Bricks 4 Kidz, an enrichment program devoted to providing an extraordinary atmosphere for children to learn, build and play with LEGO® Bricks.
“I looked at various franchises, and from my perspective, building LEGOs is about more than having fun – it’s an opportunity to learn.”
At Bricks 4 Kidz, classes are designed to teach the fundamentals of STEM subjects: science, technology, engineering and mathematics. All of the LEGO® sets are built around proprietary model plans that were created by engineers and architects, so in effect, the kids who complete these models are accessing the same critical thinking and problem-solving skills the engineers used to create the sets.
“It is a franchise that teaches kids about STEM subjects in a unique way. We use motorized sets, for example, to assist in our lessons,” said Manager Krystian Rutledge. “Many times kids go into the classroom and are taught largely through lectures; we want to give them hands-on experience.”
And with a wide variety of classes to choose from, there is something for everyone – from ages 3 to 13 years old. Currently Bricks 4 Kidz has 150 models and various themed programs that run from 6-8 weeks. Topics like recycling, energy efficiency and robotics are just a few of the concepts learned through these programs. Activities for children include:
After-School Enrichment classes: One-hour classes explore architecture, engineering and technology using LEGO® bricks. Students participate in 4-week sessions focused on exciting themes including Space, Inventions, Famous Buildings and Natural Disasters.
Weeklong Spring Break Camps: Full- and half-day camps are available to suit every interest, as well as specialty camps in robotics.
Birthday Parties: Looking for something different than the old run-of-the-mill birthday parties? Why not have a Bricks 4 Kidz party with themes including Princesses, Pirates, Space Adventures, Superheroes and more!
In-School Workshops: A Bricks 4 Kidz in-school workshop takes learning out of the pages of the textbook and into an imaginative, 3D, hands-on learning experience! Use the LEGO® Bricks your child already knows and loves to instill an excitement for learning.
Pre-School Classes: Watch your preschoolers’ eyes light up as they explore an array of brightly-colored DUPLO bricks.
Kidz Night Out: The Bricks 4 Kidz Night Out is a high-energy evening full of LEGO® entertainment for kids ages 5 to 13 years and older.
Bricks 4 Kidz provides a safe, relaxed learning environment where initiative is encouraged and self-expression is celebrated. Are you looking for a no-pressure way to try this experience? Bricks 4 Kidz offers a free LEGO® build every first Saturday of the month at Barnes & Noble Booksellers from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Come play with us!
