City of Santa Clarita Launches Hometown Heroes Military Banners

by | Apr 1, 2016 | Community

In an effort to honor and support the military personnel of Santa Clarita, the City of Santa Clarita launched a Hometown Heroes Military Banner program on March 22.  The project will visually recognize military heroes in Santa Clarita with banners hung on streetlights throughout the community. The Santa Clarita Valley has always been dedicated to the nearly 10,000 veterans living in the Valley.  Through the Hometown Heroes Military Banner program, local friends and family of actively serving military will have the opportunity to have one streetlight pole banner hung in one of the major thoroughfares in each community of the City of Santa Clarita: Canyon Country, Newhall, Saugus and Valencia.  These banners will feature the military member’s photo, name, rank and branch of the military they are serving in. The program was approved at a Santa Clarita City Council meeting on February 23.  After approving the motion with a 4-0 decision, the City Council members decided to transfer nearly $5,000 to fund the program and will start by implementing 11 Gold Star banners in the first year of the project. The banners will be available to view on the City of Santa Clarita website when the design is finalized. Visit www.santa-clarita.com for more information.
