Cupcakes!
The cupcake boom has been going on for quite some time and is still being enjoyed! Cupcakes are fun and easy to make and are liked by everyone!
Cupcakes are a small cake designed to serve one person, it may be baked in a small thin paper or aluminum cup. As with any cake, icing and decorations such as candy may be used. Cupcakes have been traced as far back as 1796 when a recipe notation of “a cake to be baked in small cups” was written in American Cookery by Amelia Simmons. The earliest documentation of the term, cupcake was in a cookbook dated 1828.
By the 19th century there were two different uses for the name cup cake or cupcake. Before muffin tins were available, cupcakes were baked in individual pottery cups, ramekins, or molds and took their name from the cups they were baked in.
A standard cupcake recipe uses the same basic ingredients as a standard-sized cake, which includes butter, sugar, eggs and flour. Almost any recipe that is fitting for a layer cake can most certainly be used to bake cupcakes. The batter may be flavored or have other ingredients stirred in, for instance, nuts, berries, raisins, or chocolate chips! Cupcakes bake faster due to their size and they can be topped with a delicious frosting or any other cake decorations. Cupcakes may be filled with fruit, frosting or pastry cream. When baking a small number of cakes, this can be done by using
a spoon or knife to scoop a small hole in the top of the cupcake. Of course using a pastry bag is another way of filling your cupcakes.
Cupcakes can be made in a variety of ways from gourmet to more simple and fun designs and in every flavor you can imagine. No matter the occasion this treat is always loved and pretty irresistible. So enjoy the springtime and batter up!!
