Earth Arbor Day Festival Returns With Eco-friendly Fun – Festival highlights green practices with a variety of free family friendly activities
The City of Santa Clarita, in partnership with the SCV Family of Water Suppliers, invites residents to explore the benefits and fun of going green at the 2016 Earth Arbor Day Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 16 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 17 at Central Park fields 7 and 8, located at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road.
The City’s free Earth Arbor Day Festival will include a variety of activities designed to get community members excited about eco-friendly living, including tree plantings, educational presentations by local organizations, healthy food for sale, recycled art exhibits and more.
Festival activities include solar energy cooking, where residents can eat chocolate chip cookies cooked by the sun, a crafting booth where participants can make scarves and bracelets from old t-shirts, lady bug education and collection, a chance to learn about growing herbs in mason jars, a bird feeder craft, inflatables, giveaways and more.
Families can also enjoy guided tours of Castaic Lake Water Agency’s Sustainable Garden and the City’s Community Gardens. Several recycled art exhibits will be on display including submissions to the City’s annual “cArt aRt” competition, which allows residents to decorate curbside recycling bins with eco-friendly materials. Santa Clarita Transit will also have a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) bus on display for people to learn about and explore.
This year, the City of Santa Clarita celebrates its 26th consecutive Tree City USA award from the National Arbor Day Foundation. In honor of this prestigious award, the City, along with Four Seasons, will give away free one-gallon and five-gallon trees while supplies last. Compliments of C & M Topsoil, Inc. there will also be free mulch available for interested attendees.
Several volunteer opportunities are available for the festival, including planting and tagging trees, assisting with activity booths and helping to distribute mulch. Interested participants can register to volunteer at www.SantaClaritaVolunteers.com.
This year’s Earth Arbor Day Festival will be combining its event with the KHTS Santa Clarita Home and Garden Show, the Emergency Expo and the KHTS Arts and Crafts Fair.
