Feng Shui The Ancient Art
Feng Shui? What is that? That was my first initial reaction when I heard my roommate use these words. I personally had so much trouble sleeping at night. Let me rewind a bit. Recently I moved into a new apartment, and I was having trouble sleeping at night. I had restless nights of tossing and turning and I wasn’t sure if it was because of the Santa Clarita heat, or if it was because I was in a new space.
So Feng Shui? It sounds like a type of sushi if you ask me. Feng Shui translated means “wind and water” and is the ancient Chinese art of placement. The goal is to enhance the flow of chi (life force of spiritual energy), and to create harmonious environments that support health, beckon wealth and invite happiness.
In the bedroom Feng Shui helps you arrange the space to support your bed rest. Here are five simple strategies that will turn your chaotic uninspiring bedroom into the serene and sensual sanctuary you have been dreaming about.
Bed Positioning: Commanding position for the bed as far away from the bedroom door as possible, but in a spot that allows you to still keep an eye on the entrance. This will give you a sense of safety and protection while you rest. The corner of the room diagonally opposite the door is typically the best since it distances you from the door while keeping the bed out of direct alignment with the rooms opening, which is conducive to sleep, relaxation and healthy chi.
Clear the Clutter: Clutter symbolizes unfinished business and impends forward progress in life. So keep furnishings on the spare side and clutter as contained as possible to enable chi to flow freely around the room. Plants placed in the corners are said to prevent energy from stagnating there. And don’t use the space under your bed to store boxes of out-of-season clothes- doing this will block energy and lead to stagnation in life, feng shui experts warn.
Art Galore: Another strategy is to choose art and other objects that depict things you would like to see manifest in your life, such as success peace, and love. If your direct view from the bed is adjoining the bathroom or a messy closet, screen those views with curtains, folding screens or simply by closing the door. Also put down the toilet seat at night, lest the bedroom’s energy go right down the drain.
Other suggestions that many people may try also include candles or the use of an essential-oil diffuser such as lavender, which helps with relaxation, and other scents like jasmine, rose also are associated with love. Investing in linens like pure Egyptian cotton and playing relaxing music in you bedroom can also sometimes help. Whatever you decide to do, just make sure that you create a space that allows you to wind down and relax.
