Korean Cuisine
If you are a foodie, then you know just how many cuisines are out there to try! Mind blown!! The food culture has exploded with so many offerings to choose from and thank goodness you get to try to your heart’s content. One such cuisine that has evolved through the centuries is Korean cuisine. This type of cuisine is based largely on rice, vegetables and meat.
The traditional Korean meal are well-known for the number of side dishes that accompany the rice. Kimchi is most certainly served alongside every meal. Kimchi is cabbage that has been fermented with sesame oil, fermented bean paste, soy sauce, garlic and ginger and fermented red chile paste. Other favorite side dishes are beanpaste soup and vegetables. A full-course Korean meal is called,”Hanjoungshik” which is composed of fish, steamed short ribs and other meat and vegetable dishes with steamed rice, soup and kimchi.
As in any cuisine the ingredients and dishes will vary by province and many of the regional dishes have become national. When it comes to meat, beef is highly regarded and
loved. Beef is prepared in many different ways, including roasting, grilling, boiling for soup and in barbecue! One of the most famous dish to Westerners is called pulgoki which is usually called, “Korean barbecue”. The meat is marinated in a sauce made with soy sauce, garlic, sugar, sesame oil and other seasonings. The barbecue is cooked over a fire
in front of the table. Korean barbecue has become a staple in most major cities and is very easy to fall in love with due to the variety for everyone. The five flavors of sweet, salty,
sour, acidic and spicy are all included in a single dish!
Eating Korean barbecue is really a fun way to dine out with your family and friends. It is a casual tradition, gathering around an open grill and cooking together.
