Enriching the Community Through Arts – Canyon Theatre Guild
With more than 30,000 audience members and 500 volunteers annually – over 44 years of production – it’s no wonder Canyon Theatre Guild is part of nearly every local resident’s fondest memories. Established in 1970, the live Main Street theatre has touched the hearts of the young and old, the artist and the aficionado. With 10 full-scale productions each season, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
The Canyon Theatre Guild’s goal, however, extends past the satisfaction of the crowd. Upholding its mission through a series of scholarships, youth programs and donations, the CTG strives to “make the world a better place by entertaining, educating, enlightening and enriching our community through quality live theatre.” The Youth Theatre Institute, for example, serves the community through Family Season shows, summer and after-school workshops, and Adventures in Theatre daytime workshops for home-schooled students.
The CTG also supports its artists and volunteers through several scholarship programs. Ten percent of all workshop participants are given full scholarships, based on financial need, as identified by the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley; this amounts to more than 20 full tuition scholarships each year. Further, the CTG awards two scholarships to graduating seniors from our local high schools each year.
Deeply embedded in the community, the CTG gives back in the form of donations, as well. Each year, the theatre donates hundreds of free tickets to the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley, churches and non-profit organizations, as well as goods and services to over 100 community non-profits annually.
