Hit the Road This Summer!
Summertime will be here before you know it, and that means you will be traveling more and going on vacation. So before, you decide to hit the road you will want to take precautions so your family is safe and you are saving at the pump!
Extreme heat and weather and long drives in your car can be very tough on your car. Summer brings its own set of challenges. By taking the time now you can make sure your vehicle is ready to deal with summer conditions and be in tip-top shape!
Things you should be aware of before taking a trip or just for regular maintenance would be to first get an oil change. You will need to have your belts and hoses inspected for any damage, and change your windshield wipers. While they survived the winter, it doesn’t mean they are adequate for a vacation trip. You will want to have your mechanic look at your coolant and its levels. You may need to add coolant or have your mechanic perform a once-over so you will prevent future problems. Remember, the summer heat makes it more difficult for your engine to keep its cool!
Have your battery tested because summer can actually be more demanding on your battery than in the winter. Assessing your air-conditioning system’s performance is a must! If you aren’t getting your usual relief you may need to add refrigerant. Or see, if perhaps there is another cause like a leak, loose drive belt or clogged condenser. Your tires are so important and a priority to check before any long trip is made.
Check the tread on your tires, it only takes a penny to see if your tires are worn or losing tread. Replace them as needed and have your mechanic rotate your tires and check the air pressure. Big temperature changes can cause your tires to lose pressure more quickly and lead to inferior performance and reduced gas mileage.
