Registration Now Open for 2016 College of the Canyons ‘Summer Institute’
Registration is now open for the popular career exploration themed College of the Canyons Summer Institute, with weekly sessions running July 11 to 14 and July 18 to 22.
The College of the Canyons Summer Institute is open to students entering the seventh, eighth and ninth grades.
The goal of the Summer Institute is to provide hands-on career exploration and learning opportunities to students in a variety of areas and subjects including: robotics, special effects and movie making, allied health, video game design, sports medicine, photography, architecture and welding.
All Summer Institute instructors are COC professors, student teachers or industry professionals that have tailored their curriculum with junior high and high school students in mind.
Each track allows participating students to discover a multitude of career possibilities through a unique blend of innovative lesson plans and fun hands-on activities that are scheduled each week.
“The COC Summer Institute is much more than your typical summer camp,” said Mark Carr, Summer Institute Coordinator. “It’s an opportunity for your child to discover a potential career path, and have some fun at the same time. You don’t want to let your teenager miss out on this amazing experience.”
All 2016 COC Summer Institute begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 3:30 p.m. Enrollment fees are $225 per child per week.
The 2016 Summer Institute weekly schedule of classes is listed below:
• July 11 to 14 (M/T/W/Th/) — video game design; robotics; photography; allied health; special effects and movie making; welding
• July 18 to 22 (M/T/W/Th/F) — video game design; robotics; photography; introduction to architecture; special effects and movie making; how it’s made how it’s done; sports medicine
