What Shoes Are Best for Me?
I recently received e-mail from my sister-in-law asking this exact question, along with several patients desiring the same information. Well it turned out she was doing a lot of on line research and to answer most of the questions she needed information regarding her feet from me her podiatrist.
She told me what current shoes she has had success with and the ones she had not, and added she had purchased one for an upcoming trip but needed several others. Prior to getting back to her I did some research of my own and looked through a lot of my catalogues, journals and orthotic laboratory newsletters. The reasons I did this is I needed to give her specific answers unique to her anatomy, activities, and type of shoe gear needed/wanted. First I contacted her in print and set up a telephonic consultation as she lives in another city, then proceeded to call her and discuss all of her options of what’s available and how to purchase them. I might add that she already has several pairs of custom orthotics and has been to see me professionally on a regular basis. This is just to tell everybody that it is not just going to a shoe/boot/specialty store to buy a pair of “shoes” anymore. They are so specialized and fit everybody differently and change features so often it is not surprising she required my help. So if you or a family member (like mine) needs help in finding the best shoe for your athletic/exercise/work activities, and/or are in need of sport specific orthotics please just give us a call and bring in your shoes/boots/or whatever it is you need and we will be happy to help you.
