Celebrity Sightings – June 2016
As the weather heats up, so are the celebrity sightings! We’ve got stars in music and television this month – starting with Disney Channel starlet Sabrina Carpenter, spotted by Santa Clarita resident Taylor Elgin! Born in Pennsylvania, Sabrina landed her first role in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, playing a young victim. Since then, she appeared in Noobz in 2012, The Goodwin Games in 2013 and the Sofia the First, starting in 2013. One of Sabrina’s biggest hits, Girl Meets World premiered on Disney Channel starring Sabrina as Maya Hart.
While Sabrina was building her television career, she also began recording music. Her song Smile was charted on Radio Disney and also appears on the Sofia the First soundtrack. On March 14, 2014, her song Can’t Blame a Girl for Trying was released on Radio Disney and on iTunes as a debut single. She recently won the 2016 Radio Disney Music Award, in the Best Anthem category, for That’s My Jam. She is currently on tour, performing her new album Smoke and Fire. The first songs she learned were Crazy by Patsy Cline and At Last by Etta James. She grew up with the Beatles, Pink Floyd and other great bands.
Also spotted in the SCV was Elyes Gabel, identified by Scorpion fan Diego Garcia. While shopping at Target in Valencia, Elyes paused to take a photo with Diego and chat with his mother, both who are fans of the show. Born in London, Elyes is best known for his roles in World War Z, Interstellar and Casualty, in addition to his starring role as Walter O’Brien in Scorpion on CBS.
Elyes’ first major role was as Gurpreet “Guppy” Sandhu on Casualty from 2004-2007, airing on BBC One. From this role, Elyes was nominated for Best Newcomer at the 2005 National Television Awards (UK). He also portrayed at least two other characters on Casualty, before being cast as Guppy: Jean-Claude Tournier in a 2001 episode, and Jude in a 2004 episode.
Stay tuned for more celebrity sightings, as there are many more to report! You never know which star you may run into. And don’t be shy – snap a photo with your favorite celebrity and be sure to share your brush with fame with us.
