New Hope for Hair Loss
The problem of hair loss and thinning has plagued both men and women for centuries. Known as androgenic alopecia or male pattern baldness, it strikes both sexes. Through the ages, various remedies have developed with varying degrees of success or failure.
Early attempts included wigs and hair weaving. Clearly these have limitations and can be pricey and require maintenance. Medications such as Propecia, which can’t be used by women and Rogain are full of potential side effects and are expensive. Well done hair transplantation can offer excellent results, if performed by the new micrograft techniques. However, these procedures can be costly and have significant down time, pain and complications.
The newest method for treating androgenic hair loss is cost effective, simple and has a high overall patient satisfaction. This latest development involves the use of PRP to stimulate hair growth. PRP or platelet-rich plasma is easily drawn from the patient’s arm. The amount of blood withdrawn is less than that taken during a routine, yearly physical exam and takes less time.
Next, the blood is centrifuged using specially developed equipment to insure proper separation of the red cells and the plasma. The plasma is then super concentrated until there are 1,000,000 platelets per mL of plasma. These platelets contain granules that harbor protein growth factors which, when infused into our tissues, stimulate stem cells, fibroblasts and epithelial cells. These in turn promote collagen production as well as generate the cells responsible for hair repair and proliferation.
Medical studies have shown significant reduction in hair loss after the first injection. Hair count also increased by an average of 23 to 45 hair follicle units per square centimeter. Most patients received three to four treatments.
This revolutionary treatment is now available only at Dermacure of Valencia. For more information, please call 661-257-8400.
