More Options for Math and Science Credit
With summer in sight and the days are busy with graduations and finals, soon summer will be in full swing with wonderful diversions and fun. It is also a great time to consider utilizing the summer months to your child get ahead in their academics in preparation for junior high or high school or even looking ahead to college admissions.
Students can even take their math or science course at Math Support Services. Transferable course programs are approved by the William S. Hart District and accredited by WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges). Classes also meet the UC a-g requirements for college admissions and have been approved by the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association).
Maybe you have heard some of the rumblings about Common Core being implemented this fall, and you are wondering what this means for your child. We can help you understand how this will affect your child’s math sequence and how to help them succeed. Testing begins in 2014 so many of the changes will take effect this fall.
Did you know that students can lose up to 60 percent of what they have learned during the school year during the summer? That’s almost two third’s of the material they’ve been taught! All kids need to participate in academic enrichment during the summer months so they do not hinder their academic options in their future, according to a new report from the Nellie Mae Education Foundation. This is particularly true for high school and college years.
There are many ways to fight brain drain for the summer. Preparing to take rigorous course work in the fall is one of the best! Individualized instruction can be used to fill in gaps, maintain current skills or even get ahead. All students, regardless of age and/or level, will benefit from focused one-on-one instruction. Summer work creates student success during the school year when overcrowded classes are the norm and teachers have even less time to help a student who is unprepared for the new material.
Founded by a credentialed mathematics teacher, Math Support Services was the first to achieve WASC accreditation and work directly with school districts to formalize preparation classes during the summer. Sessions give students an opportunity to experience new concepts and remediate prior material, creating readiness for the upcoming school year. Math Support Services offers flexible schedules that allow families to plan their summer class around vacations, sports activities, summer camps and other activities.
Registration is ongoing. For more information on our summer programs, scholarships and registration information please visit our website at www.mathsupportservices.com, or call us at 661-255-1730.
