Seqouia “Unravels the Mysteries of Man” at Young Men’s Conference
Behind the power of drums and the theme of “Unraveling the Mysteries of Man and making Your Mark,” Sequoia Charter School presented the Bi-Annual Young Men’s Conference at the Child and Family Center Friday.
The day-long event featured speakers, drumming and workshops for boys who attend the William S. Hart Union High School District school.
According to Brandi Davis, Principal of Sequoia Charter School, the goal of the event is to provide real life learning experiences and support Sequoia students transitioning from adolescence into young adulthood.
“Over the course of the school year, Sequoia’s teaching staff, instructional assistants, therapeutic staff and students collaborated to develop a conference that would direct our young men to be future-focused and think critically about their educational, social, emotional and interpersonal impact on their community and school, Davis said. “Sequoia’s Young Men’s Conference provides students a unique, multi-modal forum to develop lasting insights and enhanced communication skills.”
After a morning filled with drumming and using various percussion instruments, students participated in workshops and listened to speakers, including the keynote address from P. Gregory Guss, LCSW.
“Through this unique experiential collaboration, the young men at Sequoia discover the value of looking inward to harness the personal and academic perseverance for lifelong success,” Davis said.
This full day event, which alternates annually with the Young Women’s Conference, is designed to provide real life learning experiences and support Sequoia students transitioning from adolescence into young adulthood.
